The Revelation of Scalito

Today, as President Bush announced the nomination of Samuel Alito to the high court, it highlighted yet again the hypocrisy and deception that surrounds this Administration and the GOP.

Bush is serving a second term as President because of his "strong leadership qualities," a favorite phrase of the election time pollsters. His nomination of Harriet Miers, however misguided (I called her a ham sandwich...see an earlier blog), was a mark of just that. Yet the furor raised over her nomination from the Right forced her withdrawl, and instead of once again demonstrating leadership, Mr. Bush demonstrated cowardice and folded under their pressure.

Let's look objectively for a moment: Mr. Bush's strongest quality has always been his steadfast dedication to what he believes, regardless of the "what" he was believing in. If this is now false, we, as Americans, have what in our leader? Faith? Hope? This is a terrifying time to live.
